Public dancing

Cincinnati, OH – October 6, 2011 – ArtsWave and performance art group Pones, Inc. begin a new series of fun community arts activities, “Pones In(c) Public”, this Saturday, October 8th at Findlay Market from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  “Pones In(c) Public” will enliven free public spaces with unique performances jointly created by performers and pedestrians. Events will be scheduled in different neighborhoods throughout the region every second Saturday of the month through May 2012. “Pones In(c) Public” is sponsored by ArtsWave.

“Everyone is welcome to participate,” says Lindsey Jones, Co-Director of Pones, Inc. “People of all ages can join in by dancing and moving with the performers.”  At Findlay Market, pedestrians can dance along or step up and take the role of choreographer by selecting music and movements from cards and giving instruction to the dancers through a bullhorn. Pones, Inc. performers are ready to dance to all kinds of music from hip-hop to jazz, country to classical.

ArtsWave has partnered with Pones, Inc. in the past to create impromptu arts events such as dancing on METRO buses and in Over-the-Rhine storefronts during Final Friday.  “When Pones approached us with this latest idea, we jumped at the chance,” says Rebecca Bromels, Director of Communications. “We love the fun ways they bring people together.” No reservations or prior experience are required to participate in “Pones In(c) Public”. Families will enjoy the many sights, sounds, and shops at Findlay Market and then stay to dance with Pones, Inc.

Pones Inc. Laboratory of Movement is a non-profit performance art group dedicated to creating original work that blends various disciplines and focuses on community engagement, site-specific performance and educational outreach. The company explores theatre for social change through its combination of dance and theatre in its signature style of pedestrian-influenced movement.   Founded in 2008 by Kim Popa and Lindsey Jones, Pones Inc. continually collaborates with a diverse range of artists and groups and performs in multiple locations.

“Pones In(c) Public” happens every second Saturday of the month through May: October 8, November 12, December 10, January 14, February 11, March 10, April 14, and May 12.
