ART + Bikes = The BRIGHT Ride

In December 2011, Cincinnati bicycle riders created a visual spectacle of serendipitous art with the first ever BRIGHT Ride. We dressed up ourselves and our bikes in our holiday best.

We had lights (some provided by ArtsWave) and wreathes on bikes -- even a tiny lit-up tree on a rack. We saw lots of red clothing, fancy hats and helmets, and Bicycle Santa with his sleigh rode along.

Art Games: It's All About Connection

Submitted by Liz Glaser, Xavier University Communications Team Intern

Gallery hopping on Final Friday, I stumbled across a new gallery at 1417 Main Street. YES Gallery, which showcases the works of local artist Andrew Neyer and several other local artists, held its grand-opening on Friday. What immediately caught my eye was the life-size Connect Four game I saw through the window.

The Problem with Talking about "The Arts", Again

Our research on how to build broad public support for the arts came to the same conclusion about use of the word “arts” as the recent review of arts advocacy campaigns by the International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies.

Their summary is: “Campaigners should be aware that the term ‘the arts’ can be vague and can have less than desirable associations.”

Pones Dances at Paint the Street

First, Pones Inc invited everyone to paint the dancers. Then their musician friends played for us all while Pones danced -- and so did some of the citizen painters. Watch the slide show movie to see some of the fun.

5 artists + 1500 people + 6 blocks of street = priceless serendipitous art

One Sunday in September, 1,500 people of all of ages and from all over painted a half-mile of center-city
street pavement in an unprecedented act of community art-making conceived & organized by ArtsWave.

Watch what happened in this time-lapse video - 12 hours in a minute and half.

We did so many things with Rocco Landesman while he spent the day with us – that we have still more to share with you.

Help Create the Design for Street Painting

Oh boy, this is so not ordinary. Get ready to join us. Hundreds of people are getting together to make our community even more amazing.

Last fall, people from all over came together on Fountain Square to celebrate our city through the power of collective creativity. Cincinnati's first-ever Splash Dance became an Internet hit, getting over 50,000 views.

This year, our second annual "Ta Da" celebration is just as amazing and fun and for everyone.

So You Think You Can Sing and Other Lessons from the Opera

On Saturday night, we went to see the show at Music Hall featuring our opera, symphony, May Festival singers, and dancers from our ballet. This was an extra-big extravaganza -- the opera by Wagner, Die Meistersinger.

There was a lot about the plot line that seemed like familiar conversation to those of us working hard on the transformation of the Fine Arts Fund. (Fondly dubbed the New-FAF initiative.)
